Quiltmaker’s Scrap Squad is a select group of eight QM readers. They take one pattern from each regular issue and make scrappy versions to inspire you.
This is the current issue of Quiltmaker, dated Nov/Dec ’13.

The Scrap Squad quilt for this issue was designed and made by Carolyn McCormick, designer of the Add-A-Quarter ruler. It’s called Star Search.
Today’s featured quilt is by Christa Marcotte who lives in Torquay, Saskatchewan. You’ll hear from Christa in her own words below.

I don’t know where the year has gone! Can’t believe it’s almost over!
Scrap Squad Quilt #5!
Star Search aka Yellow Brick Road….
I chose to use a color I ordinarily NEVER use…Yellow!!
But as I was laying blocks out I wondered if my sewing room vacuum was subliminally influencing my decision…
This quilt can be paper pieced or you can use templates.
I chose the templates.
I am on a ‘stripes’ kick lately and have to proclaim that it did not go the ‘direction’ I was hoping!!
No time to turn back now…
I began to lay out the blocks
and it wasn’t long before I was done!
I chose to ‘pillowcase’ this quilt so that I could make points without binding all those mitered corners.

Editor’s note: I chose not to crop Christa’s photo because I love seeing the farm in the background. And look at those fence posts made from rocks! Very cool.
I used a heavy polar fleece and did simple stitching, as my longarmer’s daughter is getting married this weekend
and
neither of us have time to get this one on the machine!
I tried to get a good picture of the points.
But,
in doing so…look at the sneaky cat on the right side.
Tiptoeing through…see the toes?
Slipping through to the end!
One Scrap Squad project left!
